Bar Beach Landscaping Project

Jason Reading Landscapes was engaged to bring a high end coastal design to life at this brand new investment property in Bar Beach. With a vision for a stylish, modern, and beach inspired outdoor space, our client wanted the finished landscape to align seamlessly with the clean architectural lines of the home and the character of the surrounding area.

Client Goals

Our client came to us with a detailed design by MUD Landscape Design and asked us to deliver the landscaping as close as possible to the plan. The brief was clear: the end result needed to be high end, stylish, and reflective of Bar Beach’s modern coastal lifestyle.

Challenges and Innovations

This project presented several logistical challenges:

• Tight site access: The narrow sides of the property limited machinery access. While materials could be moved through, larger machinery had to be carefully brought in via the back fence.
• Street constraints: Like many Bar Beach streets, the road was narrow and parking for trucks and deliveries proved difficult.

To overcome these, our team carefully coordinated deliveries during off peak hours and maintained clear communication with neighbours, ensuring minimal disruption throughout construction.

Customised Solutions

To meet the design requirements, Jason Reading Landscapes delivered a wide range of works, including:

• Structural & foundational works: Site establishment, soil testing, excavation, and installation of a 200 series block retaining wall with reinforced footings, core fill, waterproofing, and full drainage solutions.
• Finishes & surfaces: Cement rendered and painted retaining walls, exposed aggregate concrete for driveway and paths, and paved alfresco and porch areas in a stretcher/stacker pattern.
• Steps & access: Plain concrete steps to the rear alfresco and five steps at the front entry, plus organic concrete steppers set on a mortar base.
• Feature areas: Fire pit zone with recycled hardwood log seating, stabilised rhyolite base, and a wood stacker integrated with the pool pump structure.
• Screening & structure: Aluminium vertical slatted screens at the front, decorative laser cut gum leaf panels above the BBQ, and a VersiClad pergola with primed pine framing.
• Decking & entertaining: Blackbutt deck with aluminium underframing and oil finish, plus a custom formed concrete BBQ bench with waterfall ends, blackbutt battens, and under bench storage.
• Soft landscaping: Sir Walter Buffalo turf laid over premium underlay and fertiliser, composted soil and mulch for garden beds, and a full planting scheme across front, rear, and street gardens.
