Terraced Outdoor Entertainment and Pool Area at Macquarie Hills

In Newcastle’s Macquarie Hills, Jason Reading Landscapes transformed a challenging, sloped backyard into an inviting pool and entertainment haven. Our in house landscape design team worked closely with our client to ensure that the scope of works aligned with their values for the outdoor project.

This outdoor project was split into two stages:

Stage 1: included creating terraced areas within the sloped space, achieved by removing old retaining walls, excavating and levelling the area, before replacing the existing walls with new structural 200 series block retaining walls.

Stage 2: included creating the pool and entertainment area, consisting of pool surround paving, deck stairs, glass pool fencing, stone cladding, and a fire pit area.

Challenges

Due to this outdoor space being small and sloped, site access was difficult. Jason Reading Landscapes worked around this by using smaller machinery and accessing the yard through the client’s side fence.

Fitting multiple structural elements into this tight space was also challenging. However, Jason Reading Landscapes created a landscape design plan prior to starting construction, which allowed for adequate planning, ensuring all elements tied together seamlessly.

Weather was not in our favour when constructing this outdoor entertainment area. The team weather proofed with gazebos where possible, allowing the project to continue.

The Finished Product

The end result is a low-maintenance, functional and aesthetic area, that utilises the small space effectively. Jason Reading Landscape’s design and construct project has created an outdoor entertainment haven for the entire family to enjoy.
